Hi, I'm Bob Parsons. Here with Leeann.

00:07, 00:08.5
Hello internet!

00:08.6, 00:16
On episode #37 of my video blog, I'm going to tell you why you should quit your job!

00:16, 00:21
Quit my job? Now? Okay, uh...

00:21, 00:23
No, stay put.

00:23, 00:27
Oh... don't do that.

00:27, 00:40
Here's what I mean. A lot of us have the very bad habit of being on the job, at least mentally, 24 by 7. I'm here to tell you, this is not good for man, woman, or beast.

00:40.5, 00:49
Show me someone who is always on the job, and I'll show you someone who is not nearly as productive as they can be.

00:49.3, 01:06
All of us humans have an optimal productivity range. I think it's about 8 to 10 hours a day max. We do best, and are the most productive, when we enjoy lots of time off. And spend that time having fun, and thinking about a variety of things.

01:07, 01:15
So here's my tips for calling it quits, at least at the end of each work day.

01:17.5, 01:20
Put it all in the rearview mirror.

01:22.5, 01:31
When it's time to leave the office, leave the job behind.

01:31.5, 01:38
At the end of the day, the last thing you should think about is work.

01:38, 01:48
Thinking about your job all day, well it narrows your focus, and mentally puts you in a corner. You become less imaginative, and certainly less fun to be around.

01:48.5, 01:53
"I've had it with you people!"
*crying*

01:53.5, 02:03
Get on your motorcycle and ride. Whew!

02:03.5, 02:23
Get a hobby. Having your mind focused on something fun will energize you in all areas. Plus thinking about other stuff, and having fun doing it, will help you come up with breakthrough ideas and solutions that are anything but obvious.

02:23.5, 02:27
Hey, you, give it a rest.

02:27, 02:36
Take frequent breaks. Use this time to meditate, take a walk, or grab a quick nap.

02:36, 02:54
And when you do so, try to spend your time thinking about something unrelated to your job or business. This has a tendency to freshen your mind, help you focus more when it really counts, and be more productive during the time you are on the job.

02:54.8, 03:00
Pump it up.

03:00, 03:14
Exercise after work. Exercise does a lot of things for our bodies and minds. Quite simply, exercise releases endorphins in our brains. And that feels pretty good.

03:14.5, 03:24
It improves our state of mind, increases our happiness, and makes us more creative.

03:24, 03:31
Get your zzzzz's.

03:31.3, 03:48
There's nothing courageous about staying up. So try to always get a full night's sleep. Most of us need at least 8 hours a night. It recharges our system and keeps us young and energetic.

03:48.5, 03:59
Go to bed early. I assure you, nothing productive happens after midnight anyhow.

03:59.5, 04:13
As an aside, when is the last time you went to an ATM after midnight for a reason you're willing to tell anyone.

04:14, 04:19
So Dr. Bob. What's the takeaway from all this?

04:19, 04:24
The point here Leeann, is that we're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time.

04:25, 04:40
When we put ourselves in the position to have a good time, that's when we're the most creative and productive. And it's when we are as creative and productive as we can be, well that's when we're the most successful.

04:40, 04:45
So when you're having a good time, that's when the good stuff happens.

04:45, 04:53
Well that's a rap for this episode. If you have any comments of questions, please post them here. I'm always interested in what you have to say.

04:53, 05:00
For Leeann and myself, thanks for watching.
See ya next time.

05:00.5, 05:11
During my life, I've assembled a collection of 16 rules. Most of them I learned the hard way. These rules helped me in business and my personal life. Hopefully they will help you too.

05:11, 05:23
Today's rule, #16. There's always a reason to smile. So find it. After all, you're really lucky just to be alive. Life is short.

05:24, 05:35
More and more, I agree with my little brother. He always reminds me, "Robert, we're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time".
