Another suggestion when interviewing: if the company is publicly held, research recent articles from the financial press and brokers who track the company's stock. This will provide you with an in-depth look as to how the company is performing and its success and shortfalls. Then tailor yourself to solve those problems. Try to know more about the company than the interviewer!

It will make the vblog better navigation!

Great work Bob. You captivated my ability to focus, so that to me, in that respect, must capture the eye of many others out there looking for "that edge". look forward to meeting you in the future. Very well stated. And the fact that you hit some main topics that directly relate to many prospective customers, show that there is a quality of mindset, that remains focused on getting "GO DADDY" out there, and with the means of pulling through a excellent demonstration at the very least. I enjoyed viewing, and was a complete reminder that, not sweating the small stuff, can be some of the best advice for anyone. Very nicely done!

As a former Professional Headhunter, I must say you are right on target. It is amazing to me that so many mid to senior level business people think interviews are about them...I've always instructed my candidates to meet the objective of the interview. if its to get a second interview, then do only enough to get the second interview. It the interview is designed to get you to the offer stage... then do what you need to do to get the offer and no more/less than that. etc.

Great work... Keep it up and thanks for all the help you give, free of charge.

Finally someone made a video of the obvious, still amazed how many people will go to an interview without any idea of what the business does. Just watch how much you do know about a company, I've made the mistake of asking a TV show some questions that made them defensive and possibly lost my hosting gig, but legitimate concerns i had maybe it wasn't the right time to ask them.

Re: Episode #30 (All comments seem to go to the last post)

Great info Dr. Bob!

Here's one idea for any job seeker. Create a blog about your profession and keep it updated. This is demonstrate to employers that you are not the type of person not to just sit around and that you are a person of action and ideas.

The cost is so little when you consider the rewards of becoming 'discovered' as perfect fit for your dream job. Once you have a blog, put the URL of on your resume.

Really want to make an impression?

Get your a domain name with your name and use that. You will be surprised how many HR folks will investigate a URL when it's in front of them. Use the free blog with Godaddy, point it to your existing blog or purchase a hosting plan to extend the display of your professional knowledge. This can turn your blog into a living resume.

Thanks again for the great info.

Hi Bob,
Again, thank you for this incredible tribute to the United States Marines. My Daddy, David, passed away in April of this year. He served in the Marine Corps and until the day he died, he shared with the world how proud he was to be a Marine. He had retired to Ireland 20 years ago. At the service in this beautiful cathedral in Skibbereen, Ireland, we were to place some items of Daddy's on his coffin. One of the momentos was one of his golf balls with the US Marine logo on it. During the service, at just the appropriate moment, the golf ball fell off the casket and bounced down the aisle. All that was heard was "well now that's a Marine for you! Thank you Bob, for serving our country on the ground and in cyberspace.

HAPPY 234th BIRTHDAY, MARINES!

Greetings and Salutations to all,

It is that wonderful time of year again (10 November), where ALL MARINES, current and former look around for a fellow Marine to say... HAPPY 234th BIRTHDAY, DEVIL DOG!!

Since 1775, the United States Marines have made the world a safer and better place to live.

There are so many, but I wished to share some of my favorite quotes about the United States Marines...

* President Ronald Reagan said in 1985,
>> Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem!

My children and family which includes every United States Marine (which, I too am proud to claim the title).

This which has always been and will continue to be one of my most cherished accomplishment.

As a final note, in history, as always there is a war on somewhere in the world and the United States Marines are always there to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

SEMPER FIDELIS or Semper Fi as it has come to be known, is the Marines motto and it means "Always Faithful"!

I have always believed it to be true.

SEMPER FI... is a Way of Life!!

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I just watched last year's Happy Birthday salute to the Marine Corps. As the son of a proud Marine, I've kept it in the Inbox for the past year and just took time to view it this morning. I'll say thanks for him since he's no longer here to celebrate. Looking forward to this year's birthday card.

ICANN recently announced that it will begin supporting domain names registered with a new, international, character set beginning November 12, 2009. How do you intend to support the new character set. And, specifically what is the new character set that is to be supported? Good luck in the transition to the international domain name set.
JJ Stiff (http://www.jjsland.com) on Nov 2 2009, 05:22pm  Reply
Dear JJ:

Thanks for your interest in ICANN's recent announcement that it will begin supporting Internationalized Domain Names for country-code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs). Although it may be months, or even a year, before we start to see non-Latin scripts in the DNS root, this is an important first step to opening domain names to international users.

This process will allow existing ccTLD operators, such as CN (China) and IN (India), to apply for their country name in a non-Latin script. The choice of character set will be left up to the applicant, but it must have legal status or be widely used within the represented country.

We are watching this process very closely to see which countries submit applications, and how those markets fit with our business plans to add ccTLD registrations to our product offering. If you are interested in learning more about the work to implement IDN ccTLDs, ICANN has additional information at this link: http://icann.org/en/topics/idn/fast-track/

Get this! I've got a 2nd interview for the tech support position at Godaddy in Tomorrow! So I'm singing "Godaddy" as I'm studying for the interview and see your interviewing tips video posted on my behalf. I'm completely immersed in the visualization "Be the Bob" to the point of delusions that you and I are "kickin it" and you are giving me 1 on 1 quality time so I can nail the interview tomorrow. So here is the apparent paradox I am facing at THIS very moment and time. I am so totally in tune with everything I am hearing from you, inspired by your philosophy that I also hold, affirmed by the uncanny "is-ness" of all that you blog is me, "synchronicity" if you will...that instead of STUDYING the material for the interview I am watching your TV commercials and BLOGGING on your website. Our website! What gives Bob? The interview is tomorrow and I can't seem to find your cell phone number! I just need you to talk me through this so I can stop this blogging on our website and assimilate the material. OMG there's the phone ringing, this must be you, whew, thanks Bob, I was just about to freakout...

It looks like the rules haven't changed much since my days on the Mississippi. The 9 points you made were every bit as relevant in the September of '49 when I set out for Shreveport not knowing what a Riverboat even looked like, let alone how to till the monkey rudders in a hurricane flow. I started out as billing clerk, but was commanding the Marion in no time for all the reasons you just said in your video - and reason #10, I'd captain a riverboat whether they paid me or not - so it just made good sense for them to call the routes. Keep up the good tips.

Excellent video in which I found myself very well documented. I would like to add, that I am also looking at the dressing, and if somebody shows up hyper perfectly dressed ($5000 suit), I'm becoming afraid. On one side, it shows the applicant can dress well, on the other, they are going to cost much too much compared what they ever may offer. I prefer light-weight bullets and honest casual dressing, and an outstanding personality.

But what do you do when the employer asks you that question? As they have done so in the past to me, and asked what exactly do I look to gain from the job. Any suggestions about such a scenario?
PK (http://pksaxena.com) on Oct 28 2009, 08:10pm  Reply

I suspect Bob would tell you that there is a big difference when the Employer asks the question as opposed to you asking the question. Once the Employer asks the question you should be honest but don't "go on and on" about it; keep your answers short and don't go into or request excessive details — remember, once you get the job, the folks in Human Resources can always answer your detailed questions!

In response to Nancy, it takes a little give and take. Want to stay in rural areas with good pay? Then you have two real choices. Find something that allows you to work on line, or start your own gig.

But even in densely populated areas, like here in L.A., your best bet if you are looking for a j.o.b. (just over broke) is to not be attached to staying in one area. Maybe it's time to think about Phoenix or Prescott. Someplace with more opportunity than less populated area.

What works for some may not work for all, but where Bob touches on Old Fashion sales techniques is DEAD on! Sales in general is the best way to cut your own path in life. And don't be afraid to study the greats. Guys like Zig Ziglar and Tony Robbins did not get rich by working hard alone. They worked smart. Be open to trying new methods, and examining honestly what is working and what is not, whether you are selling a product to a prospect, or an interviewer on you working with their team!
Frank Redlin (http://www.wetworksentertainment.com) on Oct 27 2009, 10:54pm  Reply
In rural communities, there are not many job opportunities. I wonder what it would take to get a really great company like Go Daddy to have a satelite in Payson, AZ? I have a degree, but, like others in the area, we might be flipping burgers because that is all there is. I was born in Phoenix and I do not want to move back. The clean air and close knit community fit me. Yes, there is a set back, not too many opportunities. We need more young adults and young families to stick around and be part of our growth. Payson does not want to explode with growth, but a few good companies would be a welcome addition. OK, Just a comment and a thought.

Nathan (http://twitter.com/liquidsnake13) on Oct 27 2009, 04:05pm  Reply
Dear Nathan:

The interviewer is expecting the truth — and it really is best to be truthful upfront. If you can't commit to working Saturdays and overtime then you should be honest — because if you aren't honest at some point in time the truth will catch up with you. Honesty is always the best policy!

I checked out your video #30 about the art of Interviewing and Deal Making. Believe me! Quality advice helps! I've been out of work since June and my only fall back for income are my two Websites.
Thanks,
Ralph

Bob, your video is right on. I have had many businesses over the years and I currently have an ad agency and an interest in radio stations. I interview many people and have to say this video should be mandatory for every kid looking for job. These Dr. Bob bits are great and I wish you continued success.

This was informative but funny, I really enjoyed the videos that you used in between your messages, it kept me laughing. This video was also a good source of info.

Fantastic video, Bob - this is a wonderful guide to helping people who, as you stated, are qualified, or even over-qualified, and can't/don't get the job and can't figure out why! I know I've certainly been in that position before and I'm sure most everyone else has, too.

I wish I'd stumbled across your vlog before, it's fantastic... am busy gobbling up old episodes (are they called episodes?).

Keep 'em coming!

Thanks!

Say, how does someone become a GoDaddy girl? Are there auditions? Or could someone send photos, etc., to GoDaddy?

Dear Tina:

Everybody wants to be a Go Daddy Girl! (and who can blame them?) Go Daddy Girl decisions are made only by Bob. I don't believe we are in the market for any new Go Daddy Girls at this time but if you are so inclined to forward your information please send it to marketing@godaddy.com. They'll take it from there. Thanks for writing!

Nice video, this video could apply to a lot of situations other than job interviews, like treating a client like an interview. The number one rule in any situation though, is to Listen to who you're meeting with. It's such a simple, yet rarely done task. The girls didn't hurt.

Hi Bob!
Great info! I recently lost my job (with a home improvement retailer that sponsor's a Hendrick Motorsports Cup car, like GoDaddy.com will in 2009). Those tips were helpful, for whatever interviews I may do.
But on the business side of things, I am a real estate investor (LandLord, per se) and I have several properties (which I have self-financed, so far). I'm looking to gain some capital, but many banks will not loan to me, since it is "so risky" at this time of the economy.
Any hints?
Appreciate it.

Dear Tim:

Bob is away and unable to reply. Bob always capitalized all of his own ventures and never borrowed from anyone or had any outside investors. I'm not sure he would have any hints or tips as to how to go about doing this as he never had this particular life experience. But he would certainly tell you to keep at it!

Hi Bob, I got to say you've been an inspiration to me, business wise. I used to own a small wireless ISP in Tijuana, Mexico, and it was pretty good, so i got in to the domain business as a Go Daddy reseller to provide my existing customers with some new products and services and it worked I don't sale much in my reseller store, but now the domain business has opened to me many different doors for many different businesses and opportunities. Any way just wanted to say thanks, hope we can get together some time and if you would be to come to Tijuana I can show you around some of TJs best.

Dear Alexander,

Presently I do not invest in startups. The main reason is that I simply don't have the time available to understand and be involved with these types of investments. Sorry,

Bob

Hi Dr.Bob,
Long time no seeing your new blog!.
It' always intereting to watch your blog. This v-blog remind me the very first time when I was with Eli Lilly Inc., my senior trainer told me that the meaning of Enthusiasm is the suffix "IASM" that stands for "I Am Selling Myself".
