Great videos! It good to see a veteran doing big things. Keep 'em coming. Dave Flenner on Jun 29 2010, 08:40am Reply
Hey Bob
Just want to say Great Videos.
We just recently switched our domains and ecommerce sites to GoDaddy.com. My First impression of GoDaddy was great. Great Prices, Great Products and Fantastic Customer service. Keep up the good work and you will have a customer for life. We are now hosting 3 ecommerce sites for the same price as hosting one with our old hosting company. To tell you the truth, we came to GoDaddy because of the price. But we will stay because of the Amazing Customer service and great products.
Now I just wish you all had an Auction site as well. Well because there is a definite need there. Yeah Yeah there is Ebay. and we use to Ebay. But they are Over Priced, and have the worlds worst customer service. If you have a problem or issue, it takes Hours to days to get it corrected, that is if they ever get it corrected. Most of the Customer service reps don't speak English well, they cant understand you to even know what your beef or your problem is. To make matters worse, at the end of our stay with Ebay, you had to PAY $$$$$ to a sister company just to resolve any issues or mistakes on your account. The Only reason we used them as long as we did was because it was advertising, expensive advertising, as we did not make Dollar 1 profit the 5 years we sold on there. but it introduced our products. Don't get me Wrong we sold an amazing amount of products. Our last year with Ebay we Grossed $70k in sales, but spent $30k in Ebay Fees, then after taking the $30k out to make the products, it did not leave us but $10k for the well over 40 hours a week work for the year Profit. Brought our Hourly wage to about $0.50 an hour. But we gained over 200 repeat customers that came directly to our site for future orders and still do to this day.
Someone needs to put the screws to Ebay. Might as well be a company that has all their act all together and can make the whole Auction thing work for all three sides (the Auction Company, the Customer and the Seller)
All right with that said. I just want to let you know, We are hard to impress, but GoDaddy has gone above and beyond the call. We Rate GoDaddy on a 1 to 10 scale (10 Being the highest) with a Grade of 18.
Keep up the great work, Love most of your commercials
Excellent advice Bob. We've been using Google AdWords for a short while and also recommend constantly monitoring to figure out what is working and what is not. Here's a tip, filter out words you don't want linked to your ads. For instance, if you provide "free medical consultation", you don't want "free food" to be a reason your ad shows up. Case in point, our website, www.zarome.com offers free marketing and exposure to businesses who provide services, and we have excluded a series of words that do not associate with our objectives. Thanks Bob! Vinnie (http://www.zarome.com) on May 23 2010, 02:35pm Reply
Bob,
Dude u rock! Love the whole series! The information is extremely useful. You bring focus on the details that are actually applicable in a practical sense. Also the videos are edited to be funny and entertaining, and short, and they have hot women (!! Always a winner!!) all of those components drive the concepts home in an easy to understand format. It is refreshing to hear an honest point of view about business. You should start the Bob Parsons Online Business University. Best of luck and take care.
P.S. Commercials are great. Make more!!
BRILLANT! Did you write that commercial for Guinness Beer? LOL I may end up spending the day watching BOB on the computer but it is an investment that will pay off I am sure. Stan Myers (http://www.strucurecomputing.com) on May 9 2010, 11:41am Reply

Thanks for these videos, Bob. They're informative and, even if not revolutionary, it's good to get back to basics that work. High brow/price info camouflaged with humor. Grace on Jan 22 2010, 02:15pm Reply

Bob, Semper Fi, I have a get suggestion for you for a video for guys that think like this Mr Poker. It will really make them see what they sound like.
Your company is based in empowerment men and woman. Plus your main market girl is a women that is so empowered she does not need your help to empower her profession and attitude does. She does it on her own and would probably laugh at this guy for thinking these girls can't and don't empower them selves. I bet everyone of them have there own websites from godaddy or are in the process. This Mr Poker needs to learn by defending pretty girls and amusing the are weak make you weak. I bet these kinds of girls have you bending over backward for them and blowing your money on dinners and drinks try to Mr. Poke. Because you would love to take advantage of them using the let me help you. When really what is happening is they are so empowered they prey on the ignorance of a guy out to be mister nice guy because he wants something in the long run, trust me she knows. From jump street she is smart in many areas but clowns that look at them as needing help. they are really about to get a lesson of how pretty women don't need you, me, or BOB. They can take you, show you they are empowered can make you eat out of there hand and drain your account trying to impress at the same time there bank account stay swollen and keeps on going. I know one thing Bob seems like me. Maybe just show the respect and respect the fact they don't need us but sometime we really need them (for real). But never under estimate or try to play nice guy because you'll never be the guy actually it will never the thing you chasing. Plus never assume they need you. Grow a pair. Mr. Poker just friendly advice I'm kind of joking around. Because either you seem like a smart guy just maybe not with "objects of desire" thing you stated. Because any woman would tell you. They love to be desired. Don't we all maybe. You are kidding too I hope or may you are just not as knowledgeable when it come to the one of the most powerful things in the word. I hope I don't have to say what that is online. But I tell you sometime that thing can move mountains and make a sane man crazy. I would like to say I can always hand the woman around it. But they are smart enough to work the best of us. LOL Just don't lets it happen as a pattern.
I hope Mr. Poker stands for like the cards. Because it sounds like the other think it may mean may not be your strongest suit. Mike (http://Progress-Solar.com) on Jul 1 2009, 04:19pm Reply

Just had to sawy a few words. First to all the complainers about the woman in the video. If you don't want to watch than close the page. If BOB was a fit, tall bulding muscle man, with hist shirt off, what would people want to complain about then. Oh maybe he was gay, %#^#% who cares. Obviously the message was more important that how attractive the girl was. In most cases even if it was corny she kep tthe attention there longer. She did not help sell godaddy at all. BOB DID. His comments, suggestions and help to all those who watched was the point of the video.
Secondly, I think there is good reason to have the combination of a solid paid campaign and effective natural search. Continue to produce quality informative information about your products or the market you service. Others will build links back to you site. Ensure your site is setup to PING and always have an RSS feed available for people to follow your updates. Soon you will naturally rank in the top of the search engine results.
Thank you Bob for your continued help. Your a leader to appreciate. Your offer very valuable knowledge.

Hello Bob and fellow readers. I have picked up so many great tips reading your blogs and watching your videos. I have just started my own web design and seo company after working for others in the web design and software development industry for many years.
I plan to target the smaller mom and pop businesses that need good a website presence to build and expand their businesses but are not willing to go to the big companies because they can't afford their big prices. My overhead is very low and therefore I can keep my pricing affordable to most small and startup businesses.
I am interested in advertising my business using PPC or paid advertising in the major search engines and was wondering if you could offer some tips for ad copy and keyword search for my business plan and goals. In otherwords, is there anything a bit different I should do or not do since I am targeting small and startup businesses rather than the general public?

I really wish I knew what to do with it since it seems such a good name.

I'm a long-time, loyal GoDaddy customer. But I just don't get the logic behind your advertising campaigns. Not sure what all the girls have to do with domain registrations. The whole thing smacks of Hooters and a CEO with a midlife crisis. These images give me a negative opinion of the GoDaddy brand, although I will continue to use the service as I find it very useful.
And I disagree with Bob claiming he doesn't use sex to sell. What about all the busty women claiming they've been enhanced in the SuperBowl ads? And gimme a break with the burka comment. Nobody is claiming you should be forced to stop running ads featuring half naked women. Just man up and admit that you like to surround yourself with pretty women. Mark on Jun 25 2009, 11:32am Reply
Mark, Sorry to get involve in your comment. I just cant really understand why someone would waste time to ask such an foolish and question. First off if you think being around pretty woman is a midlife crisis. That gives young entrepreneurs like myself hope to keep striving to become success and "now I cant wait for my mid life crisis to began." Hopefully Im well rounded enough to really make a difference on this world like Bob is do, and enjoying every second.
If you want to get deep like I never ever mind getting when it comes to jealousy and people who spread negative energy. Its guys that act like you. That is ready slow down or draw negative attention in tough times to a guy like Bob someone giving opportunity to the people who maybe got fired or trying to empowering them selves not just asking for the gov. to handle it.
If you think the woman feel used or disrespected for being pretty and and being asked for that beauty to help a company promote indecency and empowerment. Its a job and most companies would do the same if they had the balls to. Oh and the image of hooters is wrong. If you had a clue or wasn't so negative. You would see the image a someone that see a company the teaching marketing secrets that most web optimization firm want to charge you thousands of dollar. GODADDY IMAGE SCREAMS EMPOWERMENT, INDEPENDENCE AND A MOST OF ALL FREEDOM. Freedom to succeed and freedom to do thing from were ever they internet reaches.
Godaddy SCREAMS" LIVE YOUR LIFE ON YOUR TERMS" Mark you should maybe get some vision and notice whats going on. Last but not least sometimes these girls feel disrespected when the closet perverts, bible thumpers that have to hate or they get judge buy the other Hippocrates they pray with, and last but not least maybe the worst kind of haters men who's wives are to insecure and control their husbands thoughts and content they view. This is when the girls feel disrespected and low. You said Bob something. Why don't you admit that if Bob. was to tell haters like you that sex sells, which it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out. Maybe he likes pretty women to be in his ads. Because he understands it makes the normal eye stay attracted to the screen or message a little bit longer. That means a greater return on his investment thats just pure fact. If bob said such things his competitors, hater may not so pretty woman and negative people like yourself would try to bring down his company. I my eyes my tool for EMPOWERING ME TO BECOME FREE" to never work for guys like you. Mark I'm not relly a nasty person just relies the big picture before you spread you negative word it may just ruin a few girls jobs and put them in the unemployment line because some judgmental or jealous guy like yourself would turn them down for a normal boring 9-5 job either. U think they are 2 pretty to be smart or the Wife may kill you if you hire a beautiful girl. mike (http://progress-solar.com) on Jul 1 2009, 03:25pm Reply
Dear Mike,
I think it's better described as a midlife Christmas.
If you consider the females in any of our ad to be half naked you need to get out more. None of them are even close to being "half naked." And for that matter, exactly what would being half naked be?
And to get right to the point, what does being enhanced as it is discussed in our superbowl ad have to do with sex?
You seem to be excellent in wild generalizations and exaggerated claims, I'll give you that. But for this, to get your point across you'll need to be a bit more specific.
I twitted about you: "Funny, Bob Parson of GoDaddy publsihed enthusiastic video post on PPC. Clearly for those who never heard about AdWords." And I have to admit, that should bring a lot of value for that kind of your customers. So, don't think I am sceptical, good work. We need more people educated on this stuff. Bob, I have to say from being in the Search Marketing business I always cringe when someone as well-known as you starts talking about search. This time, though, I have to say "well done!" I'm sharing your entry with my sales staff so they can see how easily search marketing can be presented (I don't suppose you would be looking for a job )
And sure, many people could go out there and try to do this themselves, but to do it right there is a fair bit of work involved as you mention. Constantly testing keywords/ads, coming up with new copy, and understanding the bidding process can be a full-time job to really get the most out of a campaign. Then multiply by 3 just for Google to understand search, partner search, and content network.
But enough naysaying. 10:1 returns are not unheard of, and investing in a site without marketing it is like starting a business without telling anyone you are in business. So whether folks get out there and do it themselves, use GoDaddy's great tools, or hire someone to manage it, the important thing is to get your message out there! Bob, I think you should behave yourself.
Stop criticizing the 'Burka'. What would you know about it?
You're idea of female liberation is showing them in tight tops with breasts popping out. This is how you parade women; you use them as objects of desire, not of intellect. You're not empowering women, you're degrading them, and women are more than just fake breasts. I've never seen you use a woman in your campaign to show off her intelligence.

So lets say your home page had 6 different services could each page in the web site be built to talk about specific service and be tied to different key words but be in site of the same web site?
getting ready to build my first and can use all pointer i can get ,
This is a good idea for certain Web sites and certain companies. Mostly, all one needs to do is consult an effective SEO Firm (SEO.com) to be listed in the organic list. Google has communicated that more than 70% of Internet users click on the organic lists and NOT the PAID ones. Nate Campbell (http://www.seo.com) on Jun 23 2009, 12:44pm Reply

I often suggest your site for my moms on our social networking website www.citymommy.com
I think you have the best service out there. However I think because your site is so focused on bringing in men...you miss the mark with moms...all at home starting business...it is a big market...and you are missing it! You ads are just so...well sleezy! I just think you turn off everyone but men. You might consider being a little more woman friendly. Julie on Jun 23 2009, 08:34am Reply
Dear Julie,
Actually we do quite a bit of business with Moms, Grandmoms and I suspect Great Grandmoms. It's a hard thing to please everyone though. If you actually take a look at our ads, you'll see that they feature successful women who are all accomplished and role models in their own right.
Bob people need to lighten up and focus on whats important to them, their family and friends. Your site is attractive, interesting, informative and appeals to some very basic instincts... the girls are not sluts but responsible, working, successful employees of your company. I found many of these comments to be illminded and judgemental. I applaud your success and appreciate your suggestions... thank you Boston Tommy. Boston Tommy on Jun 23 2009, 06:24am Reply

I have first degree in Business and pursuing another in IT and i love marketing with all my heart.I've never seen anyone advertise as innovatively as Bob does.
Come on Greg,we all love to see beautiful women,on the streets,Bill boards, screen and even our dreams.Marketers know that and simply get our attention with it then present us with a great product, now tell me you wont buy if you really wanted it.Bob is giving his audience more than a good service but serving an innate tendency.
This girls do not suggest sex in any way, they simply have gorgeous bodies and love what they are doing:Getting your attention like every woman does.I know that alot of women thrive on the attention they get from people if it keeps these girls happy and i get a good service and advice like i just did in the video episodes it sure is worth it.I'm here to get a domain.Obviously no where else gives me what i want.
Bob,I love to see these girls do what they do and do not see them as doing anything other than helping me get what i want, where i want. This is business for christ sake.

Sex sells it is true.
In marketing if your products are good enough you don't need to use sex to sell. With that having been said my question is what is missing from the products or what is Bob trying to sell? Maybe it is what is Bob missing? Grow up Bob, high school is over and the old days are gone like the wind and you can't go back.
I sat back and thought about a nudie bar I went to one time. I recall seeing girls dressed just like the godaddy girls. Well they where dressed right before they went on stage. The bottom line is that was 30 years ago, before the wife and kids. I still remember the Hooters and the torn tops, the fact is sex leaves a lasting impression. Sex stories leave lasting impressions. I can not remember the girls name or the name of the bar but the Hooters that is another story. I remember them and the stories from that night.
My point is "what is it you want to be remembered for Bob?"
Is it your Name, Hooter or Cool ads on TV?
My wife hates the fact I use Godaddy as my hosting company because of the way the Godaddy site portrays females.
I say "Godaddy hosting" and she says "yea, the site with the smutty girls".
Two people the same house two different opinions with two different memories of Godaddy
My perception is you have two campaigns going 1. Is the Godaddy.com project and the other is the Bob Parsons blows his own horn and gets cute girls to hang out with him because he is loaded. Project 2 is spilling over onto project 1. Your personal life is just that "personal". Godaddy is no longer the Bob's hosting company called Godaddy it is now a public portal / domain and needs to be treated as such.
Some day tomorrow will be here for all of us.
If you where to pass on right this moment
Bob please tell me how you would want me to remember Godaddy the company for. And what you would want the company to represent forever.
Then, well maybe, well, how should I actually remember you the person? Bob Parsons.
My memory of you right now is fast cars, faster girls, web site hosting. And a man spending money that I along with millions of other people have given him for a service his company Godaddy provides.
I did not build the memory of you. You did it in bits and parts over 8 or 9 years.
One last question how long do you think you will keep using sex to sell or promote information.
First, why is it because we use attractive, successful women in our commercials is the claim being made that we use sex to sell? Actually no where in any of our commercials is there even a suggestion of sex. I think the issue here is one where women have been stereotyped unfairly, that if they are attractive and having fun the implication is that sex is somehow involved. This is society's problem (at least some facets of it) and one which slowly we are overcoming. Keep in mind that in certain places during our day and age it is considered inappropriate for women to be dressed in anything but a burka because it is believed that a women being dressed otherwise suggests and temps sex. Clearly this is wrong thinking. But it's the same sort of thinking that says GoDaddy.com uses sex to sell when in fact we don't.
Regarding your marketing comment, putting the use of sex to sell (which I certainly don't) aside, I could not disagree with you more. Having a good product is certainly a necessity but that in itself won't accomplish much if folks don't know you have it. There's simply too much noise in our economy that keeps us from investing the time to check out each and every claim, and certainly that keeps us from investing the time to find products that are not effectively advertised.
As for your wife's comment, I can only say that if she took the time to understand the company and it's message she would feel differently.
All the above said, I want you to know that I treasure having you as a customer and very much appreciate you taking the time to post your comments here.

Our company has over 400 domains and hosted websites through you, but I have a problem with your marketing. I can tell from reading your blog, that you don't agree with people, like myself that would prefer you cloth the girls in your marketing ads a little more. And please don't tell me to lighten up, like you have so many of the other bloggers. My main problem is that ALL of my customers (that use your hosting and e-mail services) are conservative pediatric health professionals. Since your last super bowl ad, we've had many, many complaints form our customers that we do business with a company that is promoting sex through their marketing. I know you won't make any changes, since I'm sure your sexy ads sell more than others, it's just a shame it comes down to money on everything, where do we draw the line? How in the world is having Bob's assistant be a woman, and his sidekick, make her a bimbo. I thought the video was informative and humorous. Perfect combo. Women wear tank tops all summer long. She's treated as a member of the team and professionally. What the heck is wrong with people? Now, if you had her tied up to a chair and had the bulls eye shooting directed at her now that would be something to complain about. I enjoyed the video. Great job. Tami (http://www.essensu.com) on Jun 17 2009, 04:39pm Reply
Sarah! Ease off, please. Having been around a lot of women wearing tents, I can say (in English) most would give anything to express their feelings and thoughts in public.
Such is the way of life when a camel is worth more than a woman.
Bob, I gotcha' back.
Bob - your "lighten up" comment/order is another great way to denigrate women - no need to take one seriously, eh? The other woman's comments were right - you don't need to show women as sluts. It IS offensive. sarah tomley (http://www.guerillagirlsonline.com) on Jun 17 2009, 09:50am Reply
"Sluts" is your own perception of this girl, whom you know nothing about... calling her a "slut" is an insult for someone being paid to do an honest job and the guts to actually do it, risking half of the responses from people such as yourself referring to her as a "slut", "bimbo" and other degrading terms that were not even implied in the video or anyone else except yourself and a few others who have responded. Is it the fact that someone could possibly be turned on by an attractive female that stimulates this response?
The fact that she would accept the job shows she's comfortable enough with herself to do it, she's making her own money on her own terms and her own decisions, so why that makes you so uncomfortable is beyond me unless you're jealous or hate men. This is America and all people should have the liberties to do as they choose.
She's not being abused, mistreated, and nothing sexual is implied in the context of the video's content except that she's good looking and wearing a tight shirt. And I'm sure she was paid fairly for her time, she looks happy to be standing there next to Bob.
I'd gladly pay the army of willing hot young women to be in my videos to promote them. People will watch them... 'nuff said. That's what it's all about... Jamez on Jun 17 2009, 03:04pm Reply
Dear sarah,
How in the world is me saying "lighten up" denigrating women overall when I didn't say "lighten up" to all women. I said it to just one particular "woman." Believe it or not I have also said the same thing to males who have posted here. Afterwards I don't recall people stepping up and accusing me of denigrating males everywhere.
Of course, it is possible that that particular woman was commenting and calling my assistant a "slut" and doing it on behalf of and at the request of "all women everywhere." We both of course know that that's not the case.
I will say that this happens to be America and we don't throw stones (verbal or otherwise) at women who happen to appear in public and are not wearing a burka.
I think it only appropriate I also suggest that you lighten up as well. Try it why don't you? You'll not only enjoy life a bit more, you'll also live longer.
Just for the record I want you to know that my comments here are NOT directed to women everywhere they are intended for and refer only to you. Party on!
I did check out your website ... guerillagirls.com. I found it interesting, although I must say a female sporting a guerilla head is a bit frightening to me. Nevertheless, I would be willing to discuss all this with you further in a more public forum. Would you like to be a guest on Radio Go Daddy?
I don't think that girl looks slutty. I'm not offended and I'm a straight woman. That girl is working, isn't she? I am really pleased with the service I've received from GoDaddy, the videos make is easy to understand what is going to help my business now and save me money. Everyone who has a beef w/ girls in the video are jealous I think. However I do wish they'd come off more "Miss America" and less "Hooters". Why not have one of them who understands the ins and outs of PPC advertising give the presentation??? I'd much rather watch them speak, and intelligently vs. quick scripted sidekick.
Consideration: It's better for everyone that way: I get to watch a good looking gal that I will watch even if I already know the material, and nobody is going to call her a bimbo and act unnecessarily offended to be GD Customers. And, I've never seen a sexy gal explain Online Marketing. This needs to be done - please make it happen...! Adam on Jun 17 2009, 07:01am Reply

What about the online advertising business model [not widget/e-commerce/product based] where info is the product & the goal is to attract uv's/page views that advertisers/rep firms/agencies would be interested in. Hi Bob,
I really enjoyed that video, lots of color and great music and once I get going I want to do the ads you suggested. I am finally starting sales of my drivers education board game and got my first order last week. I am so happy my friend suggested Go Daddy. I love my sunflower webpage with no junky looking ads. It is way more attractive than yours. I want to be the Nordstroms of the internet and I think rule # 9 is great. I am trying to keep good records but with no business background I am confused most of the time. Seeing you on the blog makes me feel like I have a friend rooting for me and I appreciate the time and effort you put into your video blogs. I have had so many doors slammed in my face starting Nixpix Educational Products it isn't even funny and rule #2 is my mantra.

My question is that it takes forever to create a new program. And this program is seemingly small in size, only a few K. My question is how the heck do you gauge what a good time for a program build is. I am probably a little slow anyhow, always have been. But the frustration factor is still there. Hay Bob,
I have a question for you. I have been working with computers for quite a few years now. My question is is that it takes me a seemingly very long time to create a new program.
I am pleased with the results, but the program seems to be only a few K in size, but has taken usually between sixteen and twenty hours, or even up to thirty hours to create.
I like the computer, except that it really frustrates the heck out of me that it takes so long to build anything new and since I spend so much time on my own in this darn apartment, I ready to give up. What the heck does a guy in my shoes do?

Dear Jim,
Ad words are ONLY expensive if they are NOT delivering results. Before you purchase them you have to decide:
1. What exactly do you want them to accomplish, and
2. How you will measure it (and you must be able to measure it).
If you can't answer both items 1 and 2 you shouldn't purchase search advertising. If you can, then start very small until such time as you get the search engine advertising to work to your satisfaction, then start thinking about stepping it up.

This is great intro for those new to online marketing. I would like to offer some free tips here though to help out.
Relevancy is key! As demonstrated by Bob's screwdriver example. To advertise MORE effectively you should also target brand names such as 'Philips screwdriver'.
Who do you think is more keen to buy? Someone typing in 'screwdriver' is just browsing. Someone typing in 'Philips screwdriver' knows what they want to buy. Advertising costs, in general, are cheaper depending on the length of the keyword. So it's win-win.
@ John from PebblePace - I would never pay for advertising if my only method of income was adsense. You will be paying more money for Google Search than they would be for Google Content. Lee J Humphrey (http://www.my-linker.com/hop/advertiseeffectively) on Jun 8 2009, 09:54am Reply

The Seven Best Things About GoDaddy:
1. Outstanding live technical support 24/7. No kidding live, and they don't keep you on hold more than a couple of minutes.
2. Real live Americans on the other end. Nuff said.
3. Easy quick install applications. This is great if you want a blog or forum, but don't know the first thing about either. GoDaddy lets you select which application you want and install it automatically. You don't need to know the first thing about programming.
4. Fast Websites for beginners. You don't have to be a techno-geek to put together a respectable site in less than twenty-four hours with GoDaddy's Website Tonight feature.
5. The price. Great deals, especially when you consider the amount of free stuff that is included with even the cheapest plans.
6. Help to keep you from looking stupid all over the Internet. GoDaddy offers simple tips to stop you from picking a ridiculous domain name. Avail yourself of this service if your friends have a tendency to laugh at you or if you answer to the name "Dork."
7. That hunk of burning love Bob Parsons. Seriously, he's hot and smart; he's the guy who started GoDaddy. Check out his video blog for great marketing tips.
Hey Bob - nice one re. search engines. One question about something you mentioned, "how do i know if my ad is working?"
Here you say, "you need to measure the results the moment your ads hit the search engines. Track the effectiveness of each ad."
I am doing this, like many people, but I'm still a bit confused as to what is actually effective. I guess my real question is what kind of click thru rate do you consider to be worthwhile? I have been getting about 5% and some friends have said this is AMAZING while others consider it to be subpar. I'm wondering if I should be retooling.
Aloha Bob,
"Geo-Targeting" is certainly a hot button for us Ad-Words advertisers that want to gain the most effective campaigns. Bob, this post is a great introduction to using PPC advertising and you hit on all the major points.
Remember Bob's rule #9 To make PPC work for you instead of putting you into the poorhouse you MUST Track results and the keywords so you don't pay for clicks that don't create revenue for your business- Remember that keywords won't magically start converting later either so dump the clunkers unless you decide to make a change on your site or landing page that captures the traffic brought by that keyword. And don't set up a PPC campaign and leave it to spend your money for 2 weeks you have to watch these so you can improve them.
To me one of the best parts about all the major PPC providers is, you can control your budget on a per click, per keyword or per day basis. So don't sit and think about it- just get in there and do it - it can only cost as much as you choose to risk. I enjoyed this video and look forward to what you have to say next. Keep em comin' Chris S. (http://lbcmedia.net) on Jun 7 2009, 11:00am Reply

I have a question? How does a company like Ebay etc get a search term listed for almost everything and any name or product. Example your term is "Bikini Joes" the ad will say something like BIKINI JOES AT EBAY.COM etc. Do they have a robot or something doing this. Obviously if selling products, then initiating an advertising campaign makes sense (financially). But what if you're not selling products? My only revenue is AdSense clicks and some commissions through affiliate sales. My site makes ~$1k per year. It's a niche market and getting audience share is difficult. What advertising options exist for sites like mine? I don't want to run a negative cash flow just to boost traffic. If I advertise, I want those new people to come and click the AdSense ads. What advertising channels are good for information based sites? And how do we the keep the advertising cost to as close to zero as possible? Thank you. John (http://www.pebbleplace.com) on Jun 6 2009, 11:44am Reply
Hey John
When your only revenue is coming from adsense there are a few things you can do.
1.) Advertise on the cheaper search engines.
2.) Plug-in affiliate products. Surely your site has some content, right? If it does I'm sure there are several products that are related to your particular niche, and if it doesn't sell so what, the only thing you had to do was add a link.
3.) Get more traffic (obliviously) and the thing is that you want have to pay for it if you do it right. I suggest writing articles and submitting them to directories, and the beauty about that is you get to add your own links pointing to your site or to your affiliate link page. Jody Fitzpatrick (http://www.orkbo.com) on Jun 8 2009, 07:09pm Reply
This is exactly my question. I'm new to my internet site. It will be mostly informative/reader inputs and I will rely on AdSense ads. Thanks for your help. Carrie Goff on Jun 7 2009, 04:00pm Reply
Hey Bob,
Great Advice! But there's only one problem... The World Wide Web is a crazy place and if someone knows absolutely nothing about marketing, but wants desperately to learn and doesn't have the financial backing or stability to do so, it can make life extremely depressing!
An Example would be my own website. It's SICK, SLOW, and SAD! My "Word of Mouth" Advertising is going south and my dreams are there with it.
Any advice or professional uplift would be great!
Thanks for the great BLOG Video!

Hey Bob, thanks for this video. I found it extremely helpful to understanding how advertising in search engines works. As the owner of my own business (while in college) I am now going to bid on advertising to try and get some clicks. After I've created a website of course. Thanks again for this resource and for taking time to help aspiring entrepreneurs by sharing your wisdom.
As always thanks Bob for the free info, it's still amazing how many people today still do not know the difference between organic and ppc ads. Great video. You gave me some new ideas for using the search engines. My biggest concern is that we have several different catagories. It could get expensive. Any heplful ideas to keep the cost down. Gary Grigg (http://www.mtnwesttradingpost.com) on Jun 6 2009, 07:27am Reply
Yes search engine advertising can get very expensive if you are not sure how to do it properly. The key to a great search engine campaign is to not go for the golden keywords but choose keywords that someone in your particular niche would search for. For example say you are selling a weight loss product. clearly the keyword weight loss, and diet products are going to be high cpc keywords but you could target something that would be releated for example.) Low calorie foods. Now, I know that most people that are searching these terms are looking for information on how to eat right, which most likely means that they are going to be going on a diet, and viola you have a great keyword that isn't going to crush your advertising budget.

A friend
&
A Godaddy loyal customer

Ahhh....where do I start?

She's not being abused, mistreated, and nothing sexual is implied in the context of the video's content except that she's good looking and wearing a tight shirt. And I'm sure she was paid fairly for her time, she looks happy to be standing there next to Bob.

Party on!

Great presentation. I just graduated from college, and I decided to pass up job offers to start my own company that I had been working on at school. I finally just finished the product and am looking to get the word out. I have a very limited budget that was provided by college business contests that I won, but a great concept and I work my ass off. Do you have any advice for me? How can I get the word out in a cost-effecient manner?

Keep busting your ass and take time to dream often. Listen only to your dreams and if you do they well determine where you go and how much you accomplish. Hurt no one and always, always be honest, fair and generous in business and all your interactions.

You might try a few different approaches. First are you really selling something that folks want? If so, is the offer such that it's difficult to resist (it needs to be).
Second, GoDaddy.com has a Dream Website team. You might call them and see what they say. They might be able to help you on a more economical basis.

I have a question for you. I have been working with computers for years now, and have mostly have been doing this in my spare time.
My question is that it takes forever to create a new program. And this program is seemingly small in size, only a few K. My question is how the heck do you gauge what a good time for a program build is. I am probably a little slow anyhow, always have been. But the frustration factor is still there. What is a person like me supposed to do?

I have a question for you. I have been working with computers for quite a few years now. My question is is that it takes me a seemingly very long time to create a new program.
I am pleased with the results, but the program seems to be only a few K in size, but has taken usually between sixteen and twenty hours, or even up to thirty hours to create.
I like the computer, except that it really frustrates the heck out of me that it takes so long to build anything new and since I spend so much time on my own in this darn apartment, I ready to give up. What the heck does a guy in my shoes do?
Thanks,

It takes time to do this stuff brother. The second time it will take less time and on and on. Eventually it won't take so long.
You might consider learning a programming medium that isn't so laborious for the coder. I suggest Ruby On Rails and also Ajax.

I still think that organic ranking is more valuable. They tend to stay longer on Google, and best of all, they're absolutely free. Using paid advertisments is a good way, however, to get quick traffic that you wouldn't necessarily get with regular organic ranking.

Thanks for your always helpful advice.

"Geo-Targeting" is certainly a hot button for us Ad-Words advertisers that want to gain the most effective campaigns. We've used Ad-Words for some time now, and targeting specific geographical and regional "pockets" of customers is one way that we benefit from constantly measuring the results. GO-AZ content in this video blog is well received. Anyone reading this should know that I've visited these motorcycle stores and I'll testify that you practice what you preach.
Organized, professional, and up-beat.
There is so much business available to us in ANY economy. When we adopt the principals taught in these videos, we increase our success rate by a factor equal to our efforts. Keep em' coming, we appreciate (and always benefit from) your work.

Keep em comin'
