I know all this stuff already. For those who don't know it is invaluable.
A bank called me on the phone and it was important business so I said I will hang up and call the bank back on the 1 800 number so I am sure this is my bank calling.
She was so mad and made threats about how much harder it would be if I did that, but that just made me doubt her even more.
So it turned out it was my bank and they I complained about their poor knowledge of scams and how they treat customers. If it happens again I will find a new bank. It hasn't happened again. steve fuchs (http://scrabblecheat.com) on Oct 8 2009, 02:31pm Reply
Thanks for putting all the anti-spam and anti-phishing tips together Bob.
I'm not sure if our new Pres really needs them, but Chase Manhattan Bank certainly does. Bailout money is clearly not being used to increase their artificial intelligence or sharpen their X-ray vision:
I recently got what looked like a phishing email from Chase Bank with subject "Important Privacy Choices" in which "Deb Walden, EVP of Customer Experience" asked me to click on a link and go to a webpage where I was asked to enter both my account info and Social Security number to avoid Chase sending me junk mail and calls.
Strangely the web page and links and security certificates looked genuine - and indeed I got the following email back from Chase Bank (needless to say I STILL did not go to their webpage and used the phone to opt out of their junk mail):
"Thank you for forwarding your recent e-mail to our Abuse mailbox. We have reviewed the message and it is a valid notification from us regarding Important Privacy Choices.
If you have any questions or concerns about these agreements please contact us at 1-877-CHASEPC. Thanks for choosing Chase."
Some weeks later, the link is still active on their site: https://chaseonline.chase.com/public/privacy/privacyfilter.aspx Chase Bank goes phishing with own customers! on Aug 16 2009, 07:52am Reply

I am a Honda sales consultant and I can say I have been successfull since I started last year, I have been very successful in the telecommunication sales on the phone for many years.
I strongly believe that you have a good heart and that is why God made you succesful business man.
I would love the chance to work for your company and contribute even more to its success
as well as to my own to support my family .

As for Nigerian scams not working, I guess it took a Kenyan scam to sucker money out of the taxpayer for GM and European banksters. Whose next? (Yes, I know Bush/Poulson started it. Did somebody forget to tell Obama Bush sucked?)

You are a super-genius for selecting Danica Patrick as a GoDaddy! girl. I have to admit, it's the main reason I decided to switch my Domain Name registrar from Register.com to GoDaddy!, even though the cost is a little bit more.
Scam warnings, even though most should know these by now or be known by common sense, I still watched anyway to hear you talk and because, well, there are still millions who are naive and can fall for these scams.

I am now flexing all those rules everyday and watching truth and tenacity take hold on my future. I invite you to watch this weeks episode of Monster Quest on the History Channel " Mega Jaws" and tell me what you think. Another new scam is the craigslist personals ad.this is a variation of the yahoo chat "I will chat with you only from this page" you will have to pay money to join a bogus personal dating site. You respond to a ad and get a reply back inviting you to join something. Then you get bombarded with spam.
Some scammers are even kind enough to join yahoo groups for you using your email address.
Another wonderful scam is the bogus dating site. The ads look so good, the girls are all pretty and all promise adult fun. In reality the photos are taken from peoples facebook pages, google images and other sites. If it sounds too good to be true it usualy is.
Just think what sane 19 year old woman will put a ad on Craigs list looking for a 40+ year old man for some meet and greet game of hide the trouser trout. on the first date even!

You have a lot of right on commentary, and the ladies certainly help promote it, but I would guess that they could add to your credibility by letting their natural charm and beauty speak for itself, without promoting it as much. The guys watching have eyes for themselves, and it seems pointless for the girls to act like dancers,

Hello Dr. Bob
I don't know if you are going to sensor this or not?
I've got some catching up to do on your Blogs.
There are a lot of evil forces at work for about a decade.
Evils have been around a long time! It's an entity like a Jinn.
We have been spoon feed a lot of $rap over the years. I just don't
Understand how we take it? - First they' (Gov) tares the nation apart, and stomps
(U.S./US ) in the ground. Now' they send in the savior to fix all the problems?
Communications and on-line sites are our lifeblood with each other. We would have been taken over a long time ago by the forces of evil; if we were not so strong and resilient.
Love your blog, You & Girls, I'm waiting for RULE #17.
P.S. I always have time for GO-Daddy.
I would love to have some news on the state of the Domain ownership business. Its time to tune up our thinking about buying, building sites and earning and learning about how we can have some fun and make some money as domain owners.
I am sure many of your customers own several domains and I think its not something you should shy away from talking about. Jane Ann (http://www.TradeShowsVegas.com) on Feb 25 2009, 01:26am Reply
bob, you effort is highly commendable. i think you're talking about things that absolutely should be talked about. i think the hotties, are a plus; they keep the male side glued to the video. i think your enthusiasm is magnetic and keeps a certain part of the audiences attention, all on its own. but bob...your videography is detracting to put it politely. plopping the cam on a tripod with a green screen backdrop might suffice if you were shooting a porn with those two hotties, but to be honest, it was all that i could stomach just getting through the presentation.
here's what will help you out 50 fold; isolation mount your camera. e.g. steady tracker, steadicam jr., or heck go big and just order up the pro stedicam complete with certified operator.
trust me bob, you wanna be in your audience's face, you need to be in their face. an isolation mount will put you where you wanna be. it will enhance your production immeasurably. research it bob, you'll be glad you did. and if you just wanna check it out for shits and giggles,
(and only in this country can you shit and giggle at the same time)
hit me up and i'll bring a unit out to your location and prove it to you. why? cause you're saying things that need to be said.

This was really funny. Beleive it or not I spend most of my day removing spyware, trojans from people's pcs that have fallen for each and every of these scams...
For me, you could improve your presentation if you focused more on the message and less on the flair. If indeed the info you are putting out is new to someone, they would benefit from a little time to process the information without being slammed with text and funny stuff.
If you are presenting, why not have yourself as the obvious focal point of your scenes? You should be as visually obvious as the scenery behind you, but you are currently making that scenery more visually important than you. You are lost to the background, yet you are the focal point of your scenes as you are delivering the message. Sort of like someone standing talking to you and the sun is almost right behind them and you can't really see them because the sun is so bright for you.
It appears that many of the commenters are admirers of yours. But most of what they talk about is how cool your videos are and how fun. While one person said they wanted to show your video at work, they thought the better of it. You called them on it, but why didn't they want to show it at work? That is not clear. I didn't find anything racy about it. Imagine if half of the commenters said things like, "that helped me out". Or, "I am sending this to my folks so that they are aware of the dangers out there."
You've certainly proven you can be bold and visionary. But you could use your video blogs to hit at a deeper level than this and another one that I saw.
Bob gets my vote on his video's. I find the background and the girls a nice touch. I'd rather watch Bob's video's than Jerry Springer, Dr. Phil or that stupid talking lizard. Since the public airwaves were confiscated in the 1996 telecommunications act the internet is my number one source for news, music and entertainment. Freedom of speech is great concept and this open forum allows everyone the opportunity to say what they want even if it doesn't make any sense. Thanks again Bob for answering the call with good intel with a twist Some can't get their big brains around the concept of public service. Loved it though, the group was County Government so there would have been one to complain I am sure.
And because you worried about 1 or two people not liking it, you backed away from showing it? Not good my friend.
First, if your goal is to try to please everyone, you please no one,
Second, the way to do that is to introduce the video, tell the audience that it is produced by Go Daddy and then ask them to vote by a show of hands if they want to see it, my guess is that every hand will go up.

There is no way to know for sure that the survey is for real, or even if it looks and acts real, is actually adding some trojan or virus to your computer, or mining your computer data WHILE you are completing the questionnaire or survey. Companies need feedback but they should send you an e-mail, that contains no links, but that just asks you to visit the company's web site (at the address that you usually use) and complete a short questionnaire or survey. Great! This reminded me of a Boondocks comic. The less than hip grandpa sits down at the computer and avoids one or more scams then gets real excited as he says, "Oh, SHOOT THE DUCK" A follow up strip has him calling tech support where the techs are ridiculing him for clicking on it because, "Everyone knows not to shoot the duck!"
What this points out is how you have to use a little common sense to spot scams. If your letter comes from Sudan instead of Nigeria... or even West Virginia, and the elements are still there (need your money to get to their huge amount of money and will share) you need to run, not walk away from it. The man's MySpace profile is usually new, and deleted in no time. They also write in broken English, and use stolen pictures of models, etc.

Funny. You forgot the one about the naked godaddy girls though I keep going back to that same email and clicking the links just hoping that instead of a virus, this time I might see the pictures! By the way people should be encouraged that there are still a lot of great domains out there to be had... I recently snagged lawyerrepellant.com and I'm about to register techsonthebeach.com. Now if I only had some in person hand holding to do something with them... hey maybe a godaddy girl can stop by my office? It might not be profitable for that $10 you got from me, but I'm sure you will make it up in volume once word gets around about the in person service. A couple things Bob could also have mentioned are:
1. That if you hover your mouse over the link - the 'link' will show where its headed - if it doesn't make sense - don't click it.
2. Use common sense - even if the email says it's from your bank - but the return email is some crazy junk like 459dkgh3zulei@gmail.com - don't click it!
3. All banks, credit cards, etc. will use a "secure" site if passwords, etc. are being given - and that on the top address bar - instead of seeing http:// - you will see https:// the "s" means that it is a secure site.
Entertaining but hopefully most people would already know this stuff.

Bob, your business plan is obviously working, your advice is helpful and intelligent, and you are providing a good service for a great price.
I have only one piece of advice for you: when people complain about your "edgy" advertising, don't insult them by claiming your content is "not even close" to nudity, your commercials are "not at all" sexually suggestive, or that other stuff "on TV (and other media)" is worse than yours.
Why compound lewdness with stupidity? Be the big man you think you are and say it like it is: "I'm a businessman and sex sells product, so I'm using girls for bait, and if you don't like it you can do your business elsewhere 'cause we've got plenty of future customers hanging around our site right now breathing heavy and waiting for the next striptease."
I have no doubt your business will continue to thrive, but from now on it will do so without my support. I avoid patronizing companies who exploit sexuality for profit, and you have made such exploitation a cornerstone of your marketing.
I've transferred my domain to another company and I will encourage my acquaintances to shop elsewhere. Tony on Feb 10 2009, 07:19pm Reply

I have to admit, I even never considered looking at GoDaddy.com for web site hosting because of the image projected in advertising by the "eye candy" girls, figuring it was mostly cheap hype and no substance. But, a student of mine strongly recommended it as the best, so I took a closer look.
After a bad experience setting up a "free website" somewhere else, having my web site freeze up and become uneditable, getting no customer service, I'm now just trying to decide what plan to sign up for on GoDaddy. Hey Bob,
I am a big fan of go daddy.
I love your service. It really is unbelievable.
You do a really good job.
However, I have to say that I think that the "sex sell" is starting to get old.
I am a straight guy, happily married with 3 kids. My wife and i were talking about your superbowl ad. We both agreed that it was over the top.
While I dont really like it, I have to balance it with the FACT that you have been REALLY successful with your business. So who am I to talk? (because none of mine have ben terribly successful).
I guess the question is: Is teh "sex sell" an intergrel part of godaddy's success? Or would you succeed without it? Do you think it is adding or subtracting? Is it your great business ability or edgy advertising that has been the impetus for success?
While the "sex sell" was fun and novel at first, it now just makes me just roll my eyes and think "there goes bob the sex addict again".
Its just that I think go daddy could be good without having girls riping their tops to show off fake boobs.
Anyway, I guess you didn't really solicit my opinion, but I figured I would share some thoughts.
I understand the point you're making, but to read your post would make one think there is nudity in our commercials (there is not not even close I might add) and that our commercials are sexually suggestive (they are not at all). Our commercials do often have female actors and are edgy in the sense that they are close to slapstick humor. That being the case, when you look at them for what they are, they really are not so bad.
Finally, when one considers all the violence and explicit sexual content on TV (and other media), and the enormous problems our country is facing these days, the content of our commercials pales in comparison.
The thing I like is you sharing your hard earned lessons. I really feel what you said abt "taking things one day at a time" is good advice.
Good health!

We are currently with another hosting service and have a military & government awards site. We have been in business for over 25 years (8 on the internet). The hosting service we now use is blocked by the Army from emails and viewing of our site. We are a legitimate business and do not offer porn or obscene or offensive material and do not use spam advertising or sell our customer email addresses. If we move to your hosting services, can you guarantee that we will not be blocked? It is only the Army that is a problem. Geoff Gordon (http://trophyexpress.com) on Feb 7 2009, 12:49pm Reply
Dear Geoff,
Your guess is as good as mine. However if your site is being blocked for reasons specific to your site, then it won't make a difference whoever you host with. If that however is not the case, and the issue deals more with your hosting company then you should not have the same problem with us.

I actually work in computer security, my company does computer security consulting and training. You got some good tips. Another scam I've seen while I try to sell an old laptop on Craigslist is people asking to pay me via PayPal and ship the laptop out of the country. They even offer to pay an extra one or two hundred above your asking price to cover shipping, but once you give them your PayPal email address, they send you a fake confirmation email. They even explain in the email why you won't see the funds in your PayPal account; they claim they are on hold until you email back a tracking number. But that is NOT how PayPal works, but apparently people must fall for it, I've received countless offers like this for one craigslist posting trying to sell a laptop, even when the listing clearly states cash only. Seems they don't care they will try anyway and so tell Mr. Obama that if he tries to sell something on craigslist to not fall for that one, otherwise the picture from the Whitehouse he was selling would disappear into Nigeria. Do you really think that using the boob girls on your blogs helps? It gives a really poor impression of you. Using bodies to further your company and income simply makes a large segment of the population say "no thanks", I'll use the other registrar. Women are not objects no matter what the media implies. You're teaching young girls to be manipulative with their bodies to get what they want. Love your company but won't use it to host my many domain names after seeing your blogs - hate your crude message.
Boob girls? Are you referring to Reva and Claudia? If so, that's a rather callous comment. They both are rather intelligent in fact I'd bet on either one of them against you on an IQ test. Not that you're dim in that area, it's just that both of them are exceptionally bright. I might also add that both are appropriately dressed. I wonder ... does your issue deal more with a female's anatomy than my blog.
Also I'm not teaching young girls anything other than how to avoid Internet scams.

Bob,
I really need your advice on what could be a crucial decision. I've suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me.
The usual signs...the phone rings, but if I answer the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently although when I ask their names she always says, "Just some friends from work. You don't know them."
I always stay awake to look out for her taxi coming home, but she always walks down the drive. I can hear a car driving off, as if she has gotten out of the car round the corner. Why? Maybe she wasn't in a taxi at all? I once picked her cell phone up just to see what time it was and she went berserk, screaming that I should never touch her phone again and wanted to know why was I checking up on her.
Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to really check on her.
I decided I was going to park my Harley Davidson motorcycle next to the garage and then hide behind it so I could get a good view of the whole street when she came home. It was at that moment crouching behind my Harley, that I noticed that the valve covers on my engine seemed to be leaking a little oil.
Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it back to the dealer?
Things like this happen to all of us. I was at the Bike shop the other day trying to get my new seat put on on for the rally in Daytona when something strange happened to me. I had to go outside for a smoke and I noticed a nice looking lady getting out of a Taxi and getting into a Black BMW with some older man and they drive off. About an hour later the BMW pulled up out back and then another Taxi picked her up and they drove away. Jim Bob (http://www.RabbitEarsHTDV.com) on Feb 5 2009, 09:11pm Reply
Dear Bruce,
You have a right to be concerned, and I'm proud of you for noticing. Actually it all depends on how handy you are. Taking the valve covers off, is really not so difficult. But in doing so, you might damage the gaskets. If so, you'll need to replace them with new ones. You also need to have a torque wrench handy to make sure the bolts are tightened to specs. if you don't feel confident with this, it will only take a dealer a few minutes to put things right.
Finally, do make sure the bike is titled solely in your name so when you dump your wife you won't have to sell it. If the title is in joint names, trade the bike in on a hot new one with abs and make sure the title on the new bike is just in your name.
I spit coffee out reading this- Thanks I needed a good laugh! Reading through these comments make me want to use godaddy even more. Great marketing plan! Keep up the good work. I now need to go back and watch all the past videos! Jon in Florida (http://www.godaddy.com) on Feb 9 2009, 07:30am Reply

I guess some people find it dificult to realize, that godaddy has the best affordable-Domain Name, Web Hosting and SSL Certificate service, when they have boobs in their face.
I've been a customer of yours for a few years, now. I have never been offended by the sexy commercials and I don't hesitate to recommend you to friends.
I think it just comes down to the warm fuzzy feeling I get every time I get a follow up call from your awesome customer service agents... who speak ENGLISH?! Because - OH MY they are based in the U.S.?! And Arizona, no less.
That's UNHEARD OF nowadays. I can't get that from anyone else I do business with, and I'm not letting go of it as long as you offer it.
Thanks for providing a great service and funny commercials!
I have to say, all the whining about the commercials is absolutely laughable. As a woman I'm more offended by the feminist reaction than I am by the commercials. Seriously ladies, lighten up!
I personally found 'Baseball' to be hilarious considering what it was spoofing. It was funny, tongue in cheek, if not a bit cheeky, and at the same time still showed what the company was about and honestly funny. Even my mother thought it was pretty funny. 'Shower' was alright, I just found it a bit more lame because the nerd side of me kept screaming 'that's not how the websites work!'.
Also, good tips, there are plenty of people out there that should know simple yet vital things such as complex passwords, what to look for in phishing sites, and what not to put online. Mistakes like those happen far too often. Ari on Feb 3 2009, 02:11pm Reply

People, or Companies that use sex, innuendo, violence, or profane language to sell their product are selling themselves short. From my experience, this type of sales pitch typically results from 1) A lack of originality or creativity on the part of the advertisers, or 2) the lack of a quality product. Let's face it, GoDaddy competes with a lot of other reputable companies offering the same product and same quality of service for about the same price. Here's my challenge for you Mr. Parsons. Hold yourself and your company to a higher standard. Challenge yourselves to create ads that accomplish your goals without run the risk of offending. I'll wager my renewal on your ability to accomplish this image transition. Good luck. Deborah Schreoder on Feb 3 2009, 08:24am Reply
Dear Deborah,
No ads aired during the 2009 Super Bowl were as effective as the two Go Daddy.com ads. Our ads not only worked, but surpassed our most optimistic expectations. The vast majority of people who took our survey said they either liked or "loved" the ads. Given that fact, and the fact that are ads are fairly tame I have to ask you ... why would I change them?
GoDaddy is a great company with amazing prices and good service, so much so that I've bought all my domains through them, and a Super Bowl advert doesn't change that.
The adverts are clearly meant in an amusing and light-hearted way, and anyone who thinks otherwise is taking them far too seriously. There was never any nudity as such, and never any offense - just an entertaining advert.
If this advert had aired in the UK during a major sporting event, I very much doubt there would be as much fuss. UK adverts can have much more flesh showing.
Anyway, another very entertaining video blog entry - keep up the good work. Chris (http://shutupandletmego.com) on Feb 3 2009, 02:28am Reply

I must say im impressed with the marketing campaign. Fact is, sex sells. I never knew about godaddy until I saw a superbowl commercial with the beautiful women. At the time I had no need for hosting or anything, but fast forward two years and im looking for a hosting package, the first thing that came to my mind was godaddy. The ads are great and creates curiosity, the hot women are refreshing compared to the other dull and boring hosting companies. Keep it up! AJ on Feb 2 2009, 09:08pm Reply
Bob, I feel like I've known you since our first "relationship" began with software from Parsons Technology many years ago. I grok. If people can't see the sense of humor, the parody and the healthy outlook that is your (mine?) on life, then, you know what they say about people who can't take a joke....
I feel sorry for people who take life so seriously that they aren't enjoying it.
I really appreciate how candid and yet still personable you are with customers and prospects alike. I will definitely continue to be one of the former for the foreseeable future.
Rule number one is staying out of your comfort zonewhats your next venture?
I am not the only person, as I can see from these comments, who found your Superbowl ad offensive. I've been using Godaddy for several years, but now that I see how inane your advertising is, I am definitely going to go elsewhere. I don't see how these ads could be creating the type of image that you would want to promote. Kevin on Feb 2 2009, 08:31pm Reply
Dear Kevin,
Those two ads are exactly the type of image we want to promote. It's fun, it's light, it's innocent and really unless exaggerated by those who simply can't wait to be, and are constantly on the lookout to be offended are not at all out of step with our world today.
I will say, if I had my druthers I would prefer someone to be offended by our ads than to have them be indifferent.
Thanks for taking the time to post. I hope you hang around.

I also loved reading these posts. I just want to point out that all these women who are so extremely upset about fake boobs also spend an hour every morning applying fake nail color, blush, and lipstick to make it look like they are sexually aroused. Sounds like a double standard to me!!
Or, maybe I am off point. Maybe they find themselves aroused by big TITS and dont know handle to handle the perspiration in their own shorts.

Your ads bring levity, and as far as I'm concerned if someone doesn't have enough of a sense of humor to enjoy your ads, then they have bigger issues. Dead on target again...amazing how, even with all the publicity about these scams out there, they still continue, and people still get caught in the traps. One point to people with faxes in the office, they come through there on a regualr basis as well ( I gave up counting how many of the Nigerian scam faxes I've seen over the years).
As a small start up home-based business, I find your business insight and tips helpful, especailly your "16 Rules". When I get times that I wonder what ever possessed me to think of starting my own business in my mid-fifties, I look at those "16 Rules". It may take a minute, but it all comes into perspective in some way, shape, manner or form.
Thank you for the services Go-Daddy provides, the less expensive but as effective products you have (nothing is "cheap", it's always "less expensive", and most of all thank you for the "16 Rules". You second Super Bowl advertisement caught a lot of parents off guard. Do you have kids? I thnk TnA is fine except when I have no control over its appearance in my home. I can shut off a TV. I can't expect GoDaddy to use any kind of social oriented thinking when it comes to where, when and what to air. To be fair, NBC played a role in this as well.
Pardon me. I have to go objectify my daughter now. Oh right. Everyone here is over 18 and of their own free will. What is the ROI on this so far today? How many accounts have transferred out? Did you get a lot of new accounts? You cost to capture and retain must have just gone though the roof and there are a number of registrars that thank you for the free business. Tom,
I hope that you showed your family the results of the shower scene, as seen on goDaddy.com's website. The women got sweet revenge in the end, and it was done with good taste (at least better taste than the beginning IMHO).
As for goDaddy's ROI, I'm sure it was healthy. Maybe a few people turned off their accounts, but turning off an internet hosting and registration account is nothing like canceling a bank account. I don't think there was a flood of cancellations.
Tom, are you complaining about the beer commercials (using a simple game like fetch, much like a 10 year old might play with his dog, to promote a beer buzz lifestyle), or the rip the clothes off the girl Doritos commercial?
I'm afraid you'll have to DVR the superbowl next year, and start viewing two hours after kickoff, which will leave a two hour delay on so you can skip the commercials. tj (http://www.vegasEVENTvideo.com) on Feb 3 2009, 11:19am Reply

I don't have an issue with the women in your ads. They're beautiful and fun. I just wish your advertising folks would give them a decent script.
Perhaps the ad writers could get a creative enhancement that could showcase your brand, these women, and a good deal of wit & humor as opposed to the drab excuse for comedy shown in this year's Super Bowl commercials.
Most women are much more tolerant of the "sex sells" angle when the ad is truly funny. Given that we represent a good percentage of web customers, it might be in your long-term best interest to insist on quality from your ad writers.

Greetings Bob,
I was watching the news today and was very shocked and disappointed to hear Mike Galanos of CNN Headline News, say that "GoDaddy is a sleazy company because of the super bowl ads".
I found the advertisement (snow globe) for Doritos to be promoting vandalism and theft. But I still will eat the chips.
While I am a conservative (w/m, 45 ) and father of four, from the same woman... I find your commercials to be very funny and cerebral.
There are disgusting (if not inapropriate) advertisements everyday for erectile disfunction (Thank God I'm GREAT there), feminine odor, or even movies that go much farther in direction than your commercials.
While i wouldn't call the GoDaddy marketing campaign 'offensive', I would call it mis-guided. Of course, sex ads are all over the super-bowl but the target demographic for a made-for-public product or service mandates that ads should be geared towards 'the middle.' It would be fine if the target audience was JUST 18-34 males, then I can see that campaign (and even Bob's choice to have the GoDaddy girls). However, if Bob is tryin to expand the easy of use and value to the general public, grandmas, etc, then this edge campaign could be (and perhaps should be) construed as inappropriate. I will continue to recommend godaddy to my clientelle. And to all of you complaining that its "unprofessional" to have sex sell. We're in America holmes. 90% of commercials, from pharmaceuticals to pet chow commercials use sex to sell, we've all seen them so why are you taking it out on GoDaddy? You must be gay.

I've loved your service, but your commercials are reprehensible. Do you have any problem with your 6-12 year old sons/grandsons/nephews watching the Superbowl and seeing your commercials? Unbelievable.
Although I felt the big breasted women were kind of unnecessary, and slightly degrading of your service, I give you two thumbs up. People don't understand that the shock and awe method really is the only way to get people's attention.
If I had never heard of GoDaddy before, I wouldn't care to go to it if the commercial was just an old white male saying "Cheap Domains". Your product is not exactly the most marketable product, but won't you get attention, it gets people curious. I know for a fact that if you had not made any advertisement with big breasted women in it, your product would be suffering just like the rest of America is right now.
Your service is extremely useful and your customer service to ranked among the best in my opinion. Other than the commercials, your business is run amazingly professional. I could complain about how much I distaste the large breasted woman, but there is no purpose in that.
You obviously know what you are doing, and it is obviously working for you. Just make sure to keep up with the amazing job you guys are doing, you can degrade the advertisement aspect, but keep the professional in tact. I'm sure others don't care but I don't want to conduct business with a professional services firm who uses sex to sell. I expect it with beer, but with internet hosting and marketing? No thanks.

If, like me, you find it substandard for the image you want to portray in your business go elsewhere. That is what I will be doing. Whatever you do don't lower your standards. I am embarrassed to be associated with GoDaddy - and God Bless America there are plenty of other domain providers with some class and that's where I will be taking my business. It's a fantastic world that we have choices - GoDaddy will not suffer one iota if we leave. However, if we lower our standards and and go along with bottom feeding we will suffer in the end. Jenn,
It's not men that are making Desperate House wives, or The Bachelor so highly rated. Both do as much if not more to put the professional women in a negative light. It is obvious that godaddy is just keeping it light!
By the way my very successful, professional wife, who is highly educated laughed at the whole scenario. She's as classy as they come but she realizes the real world, ok she also has big boobs . . . sorry i couldn't resist.
Besides the first ad of godaddy actually turned the whole scenario around and had the women with the upper hand at the end. Very funny!
First question, why don't you have the courage to post your name? No one here is going to come get you.
Second, the traffic we received is exactly the traffic we want and you my friend are exaggerating the nature of our ad. There were many ads that were far more explicit than ours.
Third, if our types of ads would be OK for a beer company, why aren't they OK with an internet company?
Fourth, the reason GoDaddy.com is as good a company as it is is because our ads work really well. That gives us sales which provides the funds to invest in our infrastruture and support.
Finally, it's fine if you don't like our ads. I wish that wasn't the case, but certainly respect your opinion. I appreciate your post and like having you as a customer.
Bob,
Thanks for providing this chance to voice my opinion...not many CEOs would allow us to voice it, let alone respond.
To respond to your comments/questions:
1. I did not post my name because I don't want google to pick up the posting. It's something I wanted to share with you but not for self promotion or any other purpose.
2. Ok, that's your choice. Personally I wouldn't want a majority of customers to be guys who are motivated by these types of visuals, but it's your show.
3. I don't drink beer often and I certainly don't drink beer that uses sex to sell. I go more for the taste (taste being the main benefit). Further i wouldn't drive a car from a company that uses those imagery and themes either. Further i would NEVER employ an attorney, accountant, plumber, electrician or any other Service Professional who uses sex to call attention to themselves. I see godaddy as a professional services firm.
4. You have improved the company a great deal, Customer service has been really good compared to a few years ago..but here's the kicker...there are a lot of ad concepts that would work really well for you. Because this works right now (gets you attention) that doesn't make it good. Long term, I think it will hurt your brand.
Thanks for listening, but i stick by my guns...you're better than this. If I see your ad guys out around town I'll let 'em know too.
Loved the Superbowl Comercials, your site has helped me make a lot of money in the past, way before the comercials and the media exposure.

The two "eye-candy" twins were very nice to look at, although highly unnecessary to make your point or to hold the attention of people who really value your comments and advice, and may ultimately, lower your credibility due to the fact that most Bimbo's with gigantic TITS have all of their most important or valuable assets in their bras and bluejeans, while carrying only a vacuum in between their ears.

Dear Jennifer,
I was wondering ... there must be something you like about our commercials? Isn't there?
My guess is that whatever is troubling you to get you to post such a mean message, goes far deeper than anything we have ever done.
You might be correct with the adolescent boys comment (I'm not going to grow up anytime soon), but you're dead wrong and quite out of line with your "brainless whore" comment. No need to be so mean spirited over such trivial and light commercials.
You need to lighten up. You might live longer and certainly will enjoy life more.
It is not about being mean. It is certainly not about "lightening up" It is about representing women in such a demeaning and filthy manner. If you were running a beer company or porn magazine your ad would have made perfect sense and fell inline with the typical representation of women in those industries. (not saying that i need women flashing their boobs to enjoy a beer - i just have come to accept that that industry uses sex and the objectifying of women to sell their product)
As a professional, educated woman I was truly humiliated to realize that a company I utilize for my webhosting thought so little of women that they portrayed them mindless, boob flashing objects. Your commercial was NOT trivial or light. It was broadcast on purpose during one of the most viewed nights on TV. So now thousands of little boys, and worse little girls, think that women in court rooms have only one way of proving their point - by flashing their fake boobs. My irritation does go far deeper than your silly little commercial - it is the constant barrage of the now accepted porn subculture that has infiltrated the business world. If you have a product worth buying - do you really need to sell it like that? Your final personal comments towards me show in a deep way how truly self consumed you are. I celebrate your rights to have classless ads on TV and to react in a personal manner towards me instead of an objective and professional one and I particularly celebrate my right to never spend another dime with your company.

I have spent most of my adult life looking at and in some way using ads and happen to be in the Fashion business. I am a 63 year old man, and I find that looking at young football players, guy movie stars or just the general "Young Men" that grace Ads, the TV shows etc does not get under my skin at all. I KNOW I AM NOT YOUNG, I LIKE WHO I AM (a little over weight, still have my hair and sense of humor I HOPE. I do find that my girlfriend does not share the same emotions...she seems to hate just seeing a young hard body girl in anything..if you could tell me why that is so? We all must be happy with who we are not who we WISHED we were or at least maybe not worry so much about not being in our 20's or THINKING OR COMPARING WITH SAME.
I think the problem is much more than dirty old men, its INSECURE older but in most cases great women some times. AdJoe on Feb 2 2009, 11:47am Reply
Dear Jenn,
There you go again. I do have to ask, why would our ads be OK for a beer company and not OK for GoDaddy.com? I suspect you must like beer but I digress.
I should mention that if "not spending money with GoDaddy.com" is the type of thing you celebrate, you really need to get out more. At least try to make new friends.
Blog rules say "no rants" so if you send another message that is basically your "fake boobs, porn this and that, Bob ruined America, etc." diatribe that you've already said several times, it's not going to be posted again (OK, I might post one more ... my way of letting you have the last word so make it good).
You should try to be a little more positive. Remember Jenn, people respond much better to honey then they do to vinegar.
I do want you to know that as mean as you've been, I think that deep down there's a lot to like about you.
Thanks for the last opportunity to respond. I have no idea why you feel the need to make personal statements about me and flat out lies - never said "Bob ruined America" - as if you have that kind of power. Honestly, this has grown wearying - you and i do not operate in the same realm of existence. I do not need to make personal attacks and insinuations to make a point. I am trying to be objective about a way of handling business and what level of professionalism to strive towards. I realize you are trying to be funny at my expense but it simply proves my point. If I want to be taken seriously in the business world I need to work harder and rise above common behaviors that are so easy to slip into. If I behaved like the women in your commercials I would, deservedly, get absolutely and therefore I do not want to have anything to do with the image put forth. Good luck in all of your endeavors and again I appreciate your time, Jenn Jenn Kos on Feb 2 2009, 02:01pm Reply

Please keep doing what you are doing, and I will keep refering customers to you, and in a few weeks when book number 4 is done, I will be back for another domain and site. I thank God for Go Daddy, all the time.
I thought the superbowl ads were great. You did it again.
I wish that the entire ads could have been shown because people were forming the wrong opinions on some of the non-Godaddy blogs.
You know what would have been really smokin'?
Danica Patrick unzipping her jacket to show a Godaddy tank top.
The shower one was cool to. It was very cute, sexy, fun and had my attention. It was genius to let the girls get back at the guys, but that version wasn't shown on tv. I think it would have explained the power of Godaddy to the naysayers.
Your'e right, it's the edgy, controversial stuff that grabs peoples' attention and sells.
Don't change a thing, Bob! I always look forward to Godaddy commercials because you always know they will be hot.

Speaking of scams... the new blogger's and marketers trick of offering 2 and 3 dollar free trials of products that have a 50-70 dollar recurring charge after x number of days listed only in the tiny print on the terms of service page is just ugly. I am not 16 going to Hooters, I am 40 with a family and looking to build a website for my business and I am not going to support such JR high locker room antics. You say you listen to your customers, heres my two cents worth.
Sex sells, Bob. Gotta love the cute babes with the huge tatankas straining to pop out of their shirts. I thought my LCD screen was going to melt they were so hot! Now I'm trying to explain to my son why his mama will never look like that. Billy Wilkins on Feb 1 2009, 02:20pm Reply

I think this is awsome what you are doing. I have lived in Europe now for 20 years, and would have never known about your business if CNN wans't complaining about it
Funny thing is this is exactly what the world needs, education! I know that today most children world wide use the internet, and can do some very interesting thigs. I do believe however, most of them are not educated properly. If it takes "patronizing some junior high school boy's locker room party" to get the message across, then hopefully the kids in the locker room understood what you just said and don't do it.
Quite funny after living in Germany so long now, most people that get upset at your methods would have a heart attack watching a nude woman running down the beach during a commercial at 1 PM. Which is qutie common.
Keep it up, people might just wake up one day and realize what you are doing is correct. Joe on Feb 1 2009, 12:38pm Reply
Bob, the tone of your website makes me uncomfortable and feel very unwelcome. The way women are used as and all the provocative commercials, double entendres, etc., is a long way from being professional. It makes me extremely reluctant to do business with Go Daddy. It feels like I'm patronizing some junior high school boy's locker room party to do business with someone who seems to view women in such disrespectful ways.

I've used Dreamhost for several years, and am happy with their service and support. However, I never register my domains through a web host, even if they offer it for free. Great hosts can go bad overnight, and if they control your domain name you're screwed. If you control it, via GoDaddy or any other registrar, moving everything to a new host is only a minor PITA, instead of a disaster. Dear Bob,
Firstly, thanks for making these great videos. Secondly, thanks for sharing your 16 rules. As a struggling forex trader they have helped me to not give up when things aren't going right.
Especially rules 2 & 3:
2. Never give up.
3. When you are ready to quit, you're closer than you think.
There are times when we are struggling, that it is difficult to step back and realize that other people are going through the same types of problems.
When you see successful people sharing rules and thoughts and ideas, you can see that they faced the same types of challenges but the difference is that they didn't give up. They persisted, they endured and in the end, they overcame.
If others can do it, I can do it too.
Thanks again and keep up the good work. Jonathan on Jan 31 2009, 02:02pm Reply

Bob, there is also one more online security tip that I always follow: Keep changing your passwords atleast every 30 days.
Also, When someone rings you (pretending from company's call center) and demands your account password on phone dont give out passwords in such situation.
I was having domains registered with one of India's top registrar. I forgot the password later. One day when I called them and asked "how can I recover my password?" they just asked me my Login-Id and provided my password on the phone without further investigation. This shows that anyone who knows my login-id can easily ring them and get my account's password.
Needless to say, later I moved my domains to GoDaddy - the secure one! Salil (http://www.GoSuperb.com) on Jan 29 2009, 06:41am Reply

Any agency I can use to have a bit of leverage on this web developer. These domains are not for Nutty Idea but for a furniture corporation I run.
any advice would be appreciated!

extremely obvious. I don't know that even guys

You have a lot of right on commentary, and the ladies certainly help promote it, but I would guess that they could add to your credibility by letting their natural charm and beauty speak for itself, without promoting it as much. The guys watching have eyes for themselves, and it seems pointless for the girls to act like dancers,
rather than intelligent women helping communicate ideas to the general public. I have
heard some guys state that they find that type

Good luck.

What this points out is how you have to use a little common sense to spot scams. If your letter comes from Sudan instead of Nigeria... or even West Virginia, and the elements are still there (need your money to get to their huge amount of money and will share) you need to run, not walk away from it.

Currently there are 100's of sites pushing male enhancement products. (I receive about 100 emails a day!)
These sites are all hosted in China and claim to offer secure servers.
Don't fall for it!!!! If your "johnson" isn't big enough talk to your Dr. don't fall for theses scam sites that only want your credit card info!

At under $60 per year for a starter web site, that is pretty close to free as it is. Looks like an excellent value.

Bruce on Feb 5 2009, 02:46pm Reply
Jim Bob (http://www.RabbitEarsHTDV.com) on Feb 5 2009, 09:11pm Reply

Or, maybe I am off point. Maybe they find themselves aroused by big TITS and dont know handle to handle the perspiration in their own shorts.

Wow - brilliant - this brand is brain dead.
Tom on Feb 2 2009, 04:38pm Reply

Love the video blogs and great customer service.
Just my opinion.

I found the advertisement (snow globe) for Doritos to be promoting vandalism and theft. But I still will eat the chips.
While I am a conservative (w/m, 45 ) and father of four, from the same woman... I find your commercials to be very funny and cerebral.

It amazes me that people can not see the levity in your ads.
I just added some new domains to my list today so don't worry about those leaving. I now have 65 with GoDaddy and the list will continue to grow.
I would like to hear from some women who do not find it degrading they need to speak up and hopefully silence those who do. You can only be degraded if you let yourself be.
Honestly I think it is envy from those less fortunate in filling their tops. They must think that all guys just want the super large and that is not true just as all women do not want the super large if you know what I mean.
Honestly I think the ads are very funny and I loved the line "she miss-remembered" that was hilarious!

Also, make sure those customer service guys know how great of a job they are doing, I really appreciate them.

Yes it gets traffic, but is this the traffic you want? Is this the image you want?
I'm sure others don't care but I don't want to conduct business with a professional services firm who uses sex to sell. I expect it with beer, but with internet hosting and marketing? No thanks.

If I see your ad guys out around town I'll let 'em know too.
good luck, I'll keep hoping for a change.

Don't get me wrong,... I LOVE mega busted babes with painted on tight shirts, but resent the fact that, as a male, I have no way to compete with these sleezy bitches in the market place.

Part of the downturn in ad revenue is because commercials are a tune-out. Yours, and these online videos are a tune-IN!

I am very happy with the services you have offered me and my small business although I think you should cleanup your advertising campaigns with women as you do so often. I am not 16 going to Hooters, I am 40 with a family and looking to build a website for my business and I am not going to support such JR high locker room antics. You say you listen to your customers, heres my two cents worth.

You need to relax, The women in the video are there by choice. If it's something you don't feel comfortable with doing , Then don't do it. You have the right "To not do" that as much as the women in the video have the right "To do" it. That's what makes our country great. Have a great day.

Its refreshing to see the top level of an organization that "gets it" and lets the public know. I'm guessing the cute girls dont hurt either when you're trying to get folks to pay attention.
Nicely done.

I've just been going back through your older video blogs. In the August 13th blog your staff had suggested that you hire 2 video blog girls to assist you doing the videos. You wondered back then if this was a good idea or not and put it to us to decide.
I'd like to say that Claudia and Riva both totally rock and you made the right decision to hire them. They really help make the videos better in so many ways
Tell them they are both appreciated by the viewers out here in Internet land and that I said hi ^^
P.S. Sorry if I spelt their names wrong.

I like your technique for dealing with Nigerian scams. I get several a week. I don't have a radio show, so instead I waste as much of thier time as possible, emailing them back with stupid questions and idle "get to know you" chit chat. I haven't found any with a sense of humor yet, but they do respond.
