CBS rejects our 2nd Super Bowl commercial. A sneak peek at our 3rd commercial.
Saturday, January 13, 2007
Yesterday, just before appearing on FoxNews' Hannity & Colmes show, I learned that the second proposed Super Bowl commercial we filmed and submitted to CBS for approval, was rejected.CBS didn't like anything about the second commercial.
In rejecting our second commercial, CBS pointed out several things they didn't like. It remains to be seen whether or not we will be able to salvage the commercial or not. We are certainly going to try.
CBS has been good to work with.
Even though they have yet to approve anything we have submitted, the Program Practices group at CBS have been good to work with. They are quick to respond and to the point.
That leaves us with one candidate.
As I reported to you earlier, we have filmed a total of three commercials for the Super Bowl. Since the first two have now been rejected, we are left with just one commercial that has a chance of airing during the Super Bowl. This remaining commercial is the one we recently filmed in Los Angeles. It includes an all star cast including our one and only Go Daddy Girl, Candice Michelle, Indy Car Driver Danica Patrick, Harley Davidson Drag Racer Valerie Thompson, the Teutuls from Orange County Choppers, Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht from Diggnation, Cali Lewis from Geekbrief.tv, yours truly, and many others.
I'm hopeful, but have my doubts.
It is my sincere hope and belief that this remaining commercial will be approved by CBS. But given the puritanical standards that were applied to our first two submissions, I'm not so sure it will be approved.
I may be making the second commercial available -- soon.
Earlier I said that I would not make any of the rejected commercials available unless I felt we were really "down-to-the-wire." Well, I think we might be there. This being the case, next week -- depending upon circumstances -- I may make the second commercial that CBS rejected available.
The second commercial should have been approved.
I predict when the majority of you eventually see the second rejected commercial two things will happen. First, you will be disappointed that it was rejected. When you think about prior Super Bowls and all the great commercials we enjoyed, that commercial should never have been rejected. To peak your curiosity I'll let you in on a little secret. Candice Michelle, our Go Daddy Girl, did not appear in that commercial. It involves only two guys in office cubes, next to each other talking. That's it! The second thing you'll realize after seeing our rejected commercial, is that this year's Super Bowl commercials could very well be a non-event -- unless of course, Go Daddy gets one approved. :)
Try to please everyone, and you please no one.
Who's to blame for all this? I don't think it's CBS. It was on their watch that the Janet Jackson MTV produced half time fiasco that started this mess took place. I believe the FCC has them on a very short leash. In the end it's the FCC, operating through direction by our government, which is attempting to please the smallest and most vocal minority. But in pleasing this tiny "computer generated " form letter sending group" a key aspect of one of this country's greatest entertainment events is quickly being erased and soon will be diminished forever. Personally, I think that's a shame.
Watch a sneak peek of our third commercial.
Last night I was a guest on the Hannity & Colmes show. We provided FoxNews some "B-roll" footage taken during our Los Angeles commercial shoot. If you watch the segment you will get a sneak peek of what our third commercial might be like.
Until next time.
