The Go Daddy Girl®. Our Super Bowl ad odds.

Tuesday, February 1, 2005

Since we posted the second commercial Fox rejected, I've received hundreds of comments. The majority of them are positive. Most people like the rejected commercial, thought it was funny, and see the rejected spot for what it is. It's just a simple parody, and an attempt to have a little fun while promoting GoDaddy.com.

The point of our commercial.
Our commercial that will air during the Super Bowl is a light hearted parody of the censorship we are seeing today. I find it comical that some of us are so worried about what's going to be seen on television during a violent football game. Sure, there are some things that don't belong on network television, like strong sexual content. But that's not what we're talking about here.

Personally, I am going to miss the crotch biting dog and the farting horse. The reason I'll miss these ads is because they were both a good laugh and something you just don't get to see often. Banning commercials like this from the airways won't do a thing to solve our real problems. The only thing we'll accomplish by eliminating them, is to make events like the Super Bowl less entertaining.

The Go Daddy Girl will be around for a while.
You will see our "approved" commercial with the Go Daddy Girl during the Super Bowl. It is scheduled to appear during the 4th ad break in the 1st quarter, and also during the final two minute warning. This commercial, which was approved by Fox, is milder than the one that was rejected. I think it's still funny and also gets the point across. And who knows, it might also generate a little business for GoDaddy.com.

We just finished producing two additional television commercials, both of which feature the Go Daddy Girl. These will air after the Super Bowl and are more "direct response" oriented in nature.

Our Super Bowl odds.
I found it amusing that a company called BetWWTS.com just released odds on which commercial is going to win the USA Today's 17th annual ad meter for the Super Bowl. As I understand it, folks can bet on which ad they think will win the USA Today event. The odds posted today by BetWWTS.com follow:

Anheuser-Busch......................1/15
Pepsi......................................7/1
Frito-Lay...............................10/1
Subway.................................15/1
McIlhenney............................18/1
Federal Express......................20/1
GoDaddy.com......................25/1
Cialis....................................25/1
CareerBuilder.com...................30/1
Ameriquest............................30/1
Field - Any Other Company.......10/1

Before these odds were released, I had no expectations that our ad would be the winner. As you can see, Go Daddy opens at 25 to 1. In a way, I kind of like that. I've been a long shot all my life.

In case you haven't seen our second rejected ad.
