Why blog?

About my weblog
Over the past couple years the subject of starting my own blog has come up hundreds of times, whether as a means to talk about our company - Go Daddy, or as a more personal record of my life, interests, and events that I see as being important to our times. I have decided to start this out and see where it goes. Who knows, I may yank it tomorrow or it may be around for the long haul.

I want the focus of this blog to be fairly wide open. The main goal is for me to have an avenue to discuss some of the important issues that will impact how the Internet is run, by whom, and under whose control. I really see this blog as being a channel to tell you about events in the industry that will drive what the Internet looks like in 5, 10, 20 years. Every once in a while I'll write something more personal, reflecting my opinions on current events and politics. In this first edition, I talk about something that should be very disturbing to all of us in this week's Hot Points.

First of all, I want you to know that I am writing this blog myself. Sure, I have an editor look it over, but by and large this is me writing; no public relations spin, no plugging the company shamelessly (well, maybe a little), and no holier than thou sermons here. I think the reasons I went ahead and started to do this are threefold; I want to promote the Internet, I am an entrepreneur by nature, and I have opinions and don't mind telling you about them.
